Victor Boniface wants to leave Bayer Leverkusen when the January window opens.
Here is what we know. That is according to a Sky Germany report that AfricaSoccer carried on 23 October. The Super Eagles striker's representatives have told the club he is keen to go, and the same report says there are no advanced talks with another club yet. Nothing has been agreed. Not yet.
The club is not shutting the door on him. Sporting director Simon Rolfes said on 24 October that he is ‘not worried' about the striker's future, and that Boniface can still earn his way back into the squad. Rolfes added that pressing and off-the-ball work were never Boniface's strongest areas, but that he has other qualities the club wants to see again. Both he and coach Carles Martinez have said the striker must regain his physical condition and intensity before he can expect regular minutes in the Bundesliga.
| Player | Status | Reliability | Latest report |
|---|---|---|---|
| Victor Boniface, Leverkusen | Rumour | Medium | 23 to 24 October |
| Henry Onyekuru, free agent | Advanced | Medium | 27 October |
| Victor Osimhen, Galatasaray | Rumour | Low | 30 October |
| Maduka Okoye, Udinese | Rumour | Medium | 21 October |
Boniface was left out of Leverkusen's Europa League league-phase squad, and Jonas Hofmann was registered in his place after Martin Terrier's injury. He has made one Bundesliga appearance this season, five minutes in the 3-2 opening-day defeat to newly promoted SV Elversberg. Pulse Sports reported on 16 October that he had played only once since his Werder Bremen loan.
Schick first. Patrik Schick is ahead of him in the pecking order for the central striker role.
According to the Sky report, a loan is the most likely outcome, though a permanent move is not ruled out. The club has not confirmed any of this. It is a reporter's reading of the situation, not a decision. That is a big if.
Henry Onyekuru is the closest of the live stories to a deal.
Close, but not close enough.
The timing is tight, though. Fanatik reported on 9 October that Bursaspor have made significant progress with the free-agent winger over a half-season deal with an option to extend, and Soccernet's explainer of 27 October says a contract signed now cannot be registered until January. That makes January the earliest date he could play for the Turkish club. That is the catch.
The reports also disagree on his status. Two outlets, two answers. Fanatik says Bursaspor hold his registration rights, while AfricaSoccer describes him as a free agent since leaving Gençlerbirliği. No fee has been reported. No signing has been announced.
Victor Osimhen's Juventus story needs caution.
Talk Juve reported in early August that a €75m clause in his Galatasaray contract, payable if he is sold to an Italian club, rules Juventus out, a claim Legit.ng repeated on 5 August. Afrik-Foot's 19 October piece went the other way, naming Juventus as the likeliest Serie A destination in 2027 on the strength of unnamed reports. We have kept the story at low reliability until a club or the player's camp says something on the record.
Maduka Okoye is the other name to watch. Il Messaggero Veneto, relayed by TuttoMercatoWeb on 16 October, reported that Inter are monitoring the Udinese goalkeeper ahead of January, while Calciomercato.it described Inter's interest as approval rather than negotiation, with no official contact so far. No offer has been made. Inter have not moved. Udinese's valuation of about €20m is described as the obstacle.
January will tell. For the Super Eagles, the January picture is clearer on paper than in practice. Boniface's situation is about minutes rather than a bid, and a loan would only help him if he regains fitness and sharpness first. Fitness first. For a player still waiting for regular football, the next two months will matter more than any bid.
