Matt Hardy Reveals If Replacing Tommy Dreamer as TNA Head of Creative Was a Possibility

Matt Hardy has revealed whether taking over as TNA’s head of creative was a possibility this summer, following Tommy Dreamer’s unexpected departure from the role.

For close to 30 years, Hardy has been a big-name talent in the professional wrestling industry. He and his brother Jeff Hardy have created an incomparable legacy as a tag team during stints in WWE, TNA Wrestling, and AEW. However, the elder member of the duo has also had a good bit of singles success during his career.

Hardy made a name for himself as a solo star with his version 1.0 gimmick in WWE. Then he took his career to new heights with the development of his “Broken” Matt Hardy character in TNA. Going on to win the company’s top title on two occasions.

His ability to stay relevant for three decades has generated a lot of respect from his peers and fans for his understanding of the business and how to be successful in it. That is why it should come as no surprise that TNA President Carlos Silva wants him to eventually be a part of the company’s creative process.

Matt Hardy was not asked to replace Tommy Dreamer in TNA

“The boss, Carlos, has mentioned it to me a couple of times: “Down the road, we would love to have you contribute to the show, because you help so much as is,'” Hardy revealed to Casino.org. “And I always tell all the talent, ‘If you guys have any questions or concerns about anything, feel free to come up and ask me, and I’ll give you my opinion on it. I’ll give you my honest take.'”

If Silva respects Hardy’s wrestling mind that much, it’s possible he might have had interest in him taking over for Tommy Dreamer after his seven-year run leading the brand’s creative department came to an end in June. Hardy would certainly bring a new vision, has a deep history with the company, and has seen how to run a TV in multiple promotions.

However, the 54-year-old revealed the topic never came up after Dreamer’s exit.

“At that time, no. And I wouldn’t have wanted to take the job,” Hardy admitted. “Being an active competitor, I feel like there’s a conflict of interest there, right? But down the road, I 100% could see myself doing that, especially once I’m done with active in-ring competition.”

Hunter “Delirious” Johnston was the man chosen to replace Dreamer as creative head this summer.
