1xCup 2026 Final Brings Lagos Clubs, ₦20m Prize and Top Guests
1xCup 2026 Final Brings Lagos Clubs, ₦20m Prize and Top Guests

The 1xCup 2026, Nigeria’s leading grassroots football competition, will reach its conclusion on October 31 after more than three months of matches involving 100 clubs from Lagos. Teams have been chasing the title, a portion of the ₦20 million prize fund and an opportunity to be noticed by professional-club scouts. The final day at Inspire Sport Arena will begin with the third-place play-off at 11:00, before the championship match starts at 14:00.

Young Strikers FC and Tonic FC contest the title

Young Strikers FC, known as the Future Builders, have emerged as one of the tournament’s most entertaining sides through their aggressive attacking approach. The Lagos Island club has scored 21 goals across eight matches, placing it among the competition’s most productive teams. Young Strikers have featured in each of the tournament’s four editions and previously made the semi-finals in 2023.

Under coach Waheed Kosoko, the side came through qualifying with comfortable victories over Peace FC and Africano FC, then finished first in its group. Its knockout run included wins against Dynamic FC, Emiloju and Collins Edwin SC, a side widely viewed as one of the leading contenders in the tournament’s fourth season.

Forward Lawal Muiz has been central to Young Strikers’ push for the trophy. In seven appearances, he has scored six times and supplied two assists, while collecting two MVP awards. He sits among the competition’s three leading scorers. Midfielder Atanda Fuhad has also played a decisive role, registering five assists, one goal and an MVP award to establish himself as the event’s standout creator.

Tonic FC, the Fintech Club, have taken a far less predictable route to the final. They won both qualifying fixtures by penalties, overcoming Agbede Supreme FC and Vino Gano. Following three draws during the group phase, Oladipupo Abiola’s team appeared unlikely to progress far. Instead, its performances strengthened game by game, turning an early underdog into a credible title challenger.

In the last 16, Tonic FC eliminated 36 Lion FC, another club regarded as a major contender for the 1xCup 2026 crown. The team then beat Joy Cometh FC 2-1 in the quarter-finals and overcame JP Young Stars in the semi-finals. The young squad has built its run on discipline and commitment.

Collins Edwin SC and JP Young Stars meet for third place

Collins Edwin SC, nicknamed the Gladiators, will seek to recover from their semi-final setback when they face JP Young Stars FC in the bronze-medal match. The Gladiators own the tournament’s strongest scoring record, with 22 goals from eight games, and had been viewed as favourites for much of the competition. A win in the play-off would secure the ₦3 million prize for third place.

Several Collins Edwin SC players remain in contention for individual honours. Goalkeeper Chidera Maduka is a leading candidate for the Golden Glove, while defender Ejiofor Morgan and midfielder Adedayo Ibrahim could be considered for the MVP award. Forward Obiora Sunny has delivered six goals and five assists in eight outings.

JP Young Stars, the Eagles, have already shown they can produce major turnarounds. Against Inspire SA, they recovered from a 3-1 deficit to level the score within 10 minutes, forcing a penalty shoot-out that they went on to win. That resilience makes them capable of posing a serious challenge to Collins Edwin SC.

The final-day matches will draw several prominent guests. Odion Ighalo, the former Watford and Manchester United forward who represented Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, will attend. Ighalo began his football career on the streets of Lagos before moving on to leading European clubs, a path that reflects the opportunity the 1xCup aims to create for emerging players.

Lekan Fatodu, director-general of the Lagos State Sports Commission, will also be present. He has supported the development of grassroots sport in Nigeria and regards the 1xCup 2026 as a potential route for gifted young footballers pursuing professional careers.

Tijani Fatai, the 42nd Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, will also be involved in the decisive fixtures. With clubs representing communities across Lagos, his participation reflects his work to encourage constructive engagement between residents and law-enforcement agencies.

Fans can attend the matches at Inspire Sport Arena or follow the live broadcast on YouTube, with fixture details available through the 1xCup 2026 schedule.
