Manchester United XI vs Aston Villa: Confirmed team news, predicted lineup, injury latest for Premier League
Michael Carrick press conference after Manchester United 3-2 Roma

Manchester United will be hoping to welcome back a couple of stars when they welcome Aston Villa to Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Red Devils put a stop to their winless run on Tuesday with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Roma in the Champions League.

Matheus Cunha netted a late brace to turn the game on its head, with the hosts looking a beaten side at half time.

They turned things around in the second half when Bruno Fernandes tucked away a penalty at the second attempt, before Cunha was on hand to lash home with five minutes to play and secure a valuable three points for under-fire manager Michael Carrick.

Carrick had been under serious scrutiny following United’s worst ever start to a Premier League campaign, with his side languishing in 17th in the top-flight table.

Now, however, they will be looking to build some momentum after a much-needed win.

Tricky position: Michael Carrick

There could be returns for Marcus Rashford and Patrick Dorgu from injury, with the former on the comeback trail of a hip problem, while the latter was a surprise returner to training from a hamstring issue picked up on international duty.

As such, it could hand Carrick a more natural option at left-back, with Diogo Dalot filling in in that position in recent games.

There will also be no place in the squad for Lisandro Martinez, who serves his one-match suspension after his red card in the defeat at Chelsea.

It means that Senne Lammens will be shielded by a defence likely made up of Leny Yoro as a makeshift right-back once more, Harry Maguire and Ayden Heaven in the middle, and Dalot at left-back again with question marks over Dorgu’s sharpness.

Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui are also options in the middle and at full-back respectively.

In the engine room, Carlos Baleba is a sore loss as he pulled up with a hamstring injury against Roma, despite playing well alongside Kobbie Mainoo in midweek.

Injury blow: Carlos Baleba

Mainoo, the England international, is likely to retain his place, which means that it will either by Youri Tielemans or Andrey Santos partnering him behind the No10 Bruno Fernandes.

On the left, Rashford could return, but his comeback is likely to happen off the bench, with Cunha often positioned off the flank.

Amad Diallo will operate off the right with Bryan Mbeumo up top, in lieu of Benjamin Sesko, who is out until the new year with a shin problem.

Predicted Man Utd XI (4-2-3-1): Lammens; Yoro, Maguire, Heaven, Dalot; Tielemans, Mainoo; Amad, Fernandes, Cunha; Mbuemo

Doubts: Rashford, Dorgu

Injured: Sesko, Shaw, Ugarte, Baleba

Suspended: Martinez
