Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo is leading an official fan poll organised by France Football to determine the greatest winner in the history of the Ballon d’Or.
The voting exercise, which began in early October, gives football fans the opportunity to select their favourite among 10 football legends who have won the prestigious individual award at least twice.
Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, is competing against several iconic figures in football, including his longtime rival Lionel Messi, Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazario, former Netherlands captain Marco van Basten, Johan Cruyff, Michel Platini and Kevin Keegan.
Confirming Ronaldo’s position in the ongoing poll, the Ballon d’Or organisers announced on their social media platforms that the Portuguese forward was currently leading the race.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is leading,” the post read.
The organisers also encouraged supporters to participate in the voting exercise, offering fans the opportunity to win two tickets to the 2027 Ballon d’Or ceremony.
“You can still vote for your B.O.A.T. and try to win 2 tickets to the 2027 ceremony!
“Choose your BALLON D’OR OF ALL TIME among the players who have won the award multiple times,” the organisers added.
The poll has brought renewed attention to the debate over football’s greatest players, particularly Ronaldo and Messi, whose rivalry has dominated the sport for more than a decade.
While Ronaldo’s current lead puts him in a strong position in the fan vote, the final outcome will depend on how supporters vote as the exercise continues.
