According to a report by Mirror Football on Monday October 19, 2026, Manchester United players Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha reportedly claimed they were not allowed to speak to reporters following Sunday's 1-1 draw against Leeds United.
According to the Daily Mirror, both players declined to speak to the written press in the mixed zone at Elland Road, saying they had not been permitted to give interviews.
The incident comes days after Lisandro Martinez criticised Manchester United's hierarchy following their 2-0 Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid. The Argentine defender expressed frustration over the club's summer transfer business and reportedly criticised director of football Jason Wilcox.
Martinez was subsequently fined and apologised after holding discussions with the club before featuring against Leeds. He also received vocal support from travelling United supporters during the match, although he was forced off at half-time with an injury.
The players' apparent reluctance to speak to journalists has raised questions about whether United are attempting to avoid another public controversy. However, the report states that there was no direct order from the club's media team instructing players not to speak to the written press.
Harry Maguire did speak to the club's official website after the draw, praising United's spirit and determination while admitting they needed to show greater quality in possession.
The result extended United's winless Premier League run to five matches, increasing pressure on the team as they prepare to face Como in the Champions League on Wednesday.
