According to a report by footballTransfers on Monday October 26, 2026, Manchester United may be heading for major changes, with Michael Carrick’s position reportedly under growing pressure.
But amid the uncertainty, the club should resist any temptation to sell young defender Leny Yoro to AC Milan.
Yoro endured a difficult match in United’s 3–0 defeat to Bournemouth, which extended the team’s winless run to eight games.
A costly slip contributed to Bournemouth’s second goal, but one mistake should not define the future of a 20-year-old still developing as a player.
Reports in Italy suggest Milan are monitoring Yoro and could consider a move next summer. The defender joined United from Lille in 2024 for a reported €62 million, and former United manager Ruben Amorim is said to admire him.
Milan are reportedly weighing up a defensive signing, with Yoro among their possible targets. The fee being discussed €40 million to €50 million would be a strikingly low figure.
United signed Yoro as a long-term prospect, not a finished product. His potential is considerable, and the club’s responsibility is to help him develop rather than give up on him after a difficult spell.
Playing him out of position at right-back has hardly made that task easier. His error against Bournemouth came while he was operating in an unfamiliar role.
According to SciSports’ projections, only Kobbie Mainoo has greater potential among United’s current players.
Yoro’s projected ceiling places him among the club’s most promising young talents, and with the right coaching and experience, he could grow into an elite centre-back.
Selling him now would risk repeating a familiar mistake: abandoning a project before it has had time to succeed. The reported fee is also below both United’s original investment and Yoro’s current Estimated Transfer Value of €64.2 million.
The transfer speculation may come to nothing, but United should approach it with caution. If the club truly believes Yoro can become a cornerstone of its defence, letting him leave midway through his development would be difficult to justify.
