New Super Eagles striker Moses Usor came off the bench to fire Austrian side LASK to a dramatic 5-4 extra-time victory over rivals SV Ried in the Austrian Cup on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old forward delivered another impressive performance by scoring a crucial goal to help the defending champions secure their place in the quarter-finals of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup after an entertaining nine-goal encounter at the Raiffeisen Arena in Linz.
LASK had to produce a remarkable comeback after falling two goals behind twice against their regional rivals.
Yusuf Maart opened the scoring for Ried in the 37th minute before Isaac Kiese Thelin doubled the visitors’ advantage shortly after the restart in the 47th minute.
Joao Tornich pulled one back for the hosts in the 51st minute, but Maart restored Ried’s two-goal advantage with his second goal of the evening in the 76th minute.
Robert Ljubicic reduced the deficit again in the 84th minute, before Xavier Mbuyamba produced a dramatic equalizer in the third minute of stoppage time to make it 3-3 and force the encounter into extra time.
Usor, who was introduced in the 63rd minute, had earlier come close to scoring.
However, the Nigerian eventually made the difference in the 111th minute when he latched onto an excellent forward pass from Andrés Andrade before curling a superb finish into the far corner to give LASK their first lead of the match.
His goal changed the momentum of the encounter, with fellow substitute Samuel Adeniran adding a fifth goal in the 120th minute to put the hosts firmly in control.
Ried managed to reduce the deficit through Philipp Pomer in stoppage time, but it was too late to prevent LASK from securing a 5-4 victory and progressing to the last eight.
The victory was particularly important for LASK, who had to overcome two separate two-goal deficits to keep their title defence alive.
The quarter-final matches are scheduled to take place between February 9 and 11, 2027.
Usor’s latest heroics come weeks after he announced himself on the international stage with a match-winning performance for Nigeria against Madagascar in the opening fixture of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The LASK forward made his Super Eagles debut on September 25, 2026, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, coming off the bench to score the decisive goal in Nigeria’s 2-1 comeback victory.
After George Ilenikhena had cancelled out Ehsan Kari’s opener, Usor produced a brilliant individual effort in the 65th minute, driving forward before cutting inside and beating the Madagascar goalkeeper with a low left-footed finish.
His contribution secured all three points for Eric Chelle’s side and gave the 24-year-old a memorable introduction to international football.
His performance against Madagascar came after an impressive start to the 2026/27 campaign with LASK.
According to The Punch, he had registered three goals and five assists in 12 appearances for the Austrian club at the time of his Super Eagles debut.
Usor will now hope to maintain his impressive form at club level and continue making a strong case for regular involvement in the Super Eagles.
