According to a report by The Athletic on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, Chelsea are considering a substantial offer for Barcelona midfielder Fermín López as manager Xabi Alonso assesses potential reinforcements for his squad. However, the Premier League club could face strong competition from Paris Saint-Germain, who are also reportedly preparing a significant bid for the Spanish international.
According to The Daily Briefing, Chelsea are weighing up a “massive” offer for the 23-year-old attacking midfielder, while PSG are exploring their own move for the Barcelona star. The reported interest from both clubs could create a competitive situation as they look to strengthen their respective squads ahead of future transfer windows.
Chelsea have previously expressed interest in López, who ultimately remained at Barcelona after reportedly coming close to joining the London club in 2025. His continued development in Spain has maintained his reputation as a promising attacking midfielder capable of contributing goals and creating opportunities for his teammates.
The Spaniard has made an encouraging start to the 2026/27 campaign, scoring four goals in nine La Liga appearances. His ability to operate in midfield while providing an attacking threat could make him an attractive option for Alonso as Chelsea consider ways to improve their offensive options.
López also missed Spain's reported World Cup-winning campaign during the summer because of an injury. Nevertheless, his performances this season suggest that he has returned to form and remains an important player for Barcelona.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are reportedly prioritising a potential move for Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott ahead of the January transfer window. The England international has emerged as another leading target as the club evaluates its recruitment plans.
However, securing Scott's services could prove expensive. Reports suggest Bournemouth could demand approximately £100 million for the midfielder, while Liverpool have also been linked with an interest in the player.
Bournemouth have reportedly begun considering possible replacements should Scott depart. Among the players attracting their attention is 19-year-old Boca Juniors prospect Tomas Aranda, who has gained recognition for his performances in Argentina.
Aranda is believed to have a release clause worth approximately £18.75 million. Chelsea have also reportedly monitored his development, meaning Bournemouth's interest could create additional competition in the transfer market.
With several potential targets under consideration, Chelsea must assess their financial commitments and recruitment priorities carefully. While Scott remains a reported priority, López could provide an alternative option for strengthening the attacking midfield position.
The outcome of Chelsea's transfer plans will depend on negotiations, the willingness of selling clubs to reach agreements, and competition from other interested teams.
