According to a report by Flashscore on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, Chelsea went into half-time level at 1-1 against Liverpool in their Carabao Cup fourth-round encounter at Anfield. Despite taking the lead through Morgan Rogers, the Blues conceded an equaliser after Wesley Fofana handled the ball inside the penalty area, allowing the hosts to score from the spot.
The opening half featured several important moments, but some Chelsea players struggled to make a consistent impact. Four players, in particular, experienced difficult spells as the London club attempted to maintain its advantage against Liverpool.
1. Wesley Fofana
Wesley Fofana endured a disappointing moment when his handball inside Chelsea’s penalty area resulted in a penalty for Liverpool. The defender’s mistake gave the hosts an opportunity to restore parity, with Cody Gakpo converting from the spot in the 43rd minute to make it 1-1.
The equaliser came only three minutes after Chelsea had taken the lead, making the incident particularly costly for the visitors. Fofana’s involvement in the penalty incident placed him among the Chelsea players who faced the greatest difficulties during the first half.
2. Moises Caicedo
Moises Caicedo also had mixed moments during the opening period. In the 22nd minute, the midfielder attempted a long-range volley, but the effort went wide of the left post without seriously troubling Liverpool’s goalkeeper.
Caicedo subsequently demonstrated better vision by sending a pass through to Josh Acheampong in the 29th minute. However, Giorgi Mamardashvili anticipated the move and intervened before Chelsea could turn the opportunity into a clear scoring chance.
3. Pedro Neto
Pedro Neto found it difficult to create meaningful attacking opportunities against Liverpool’s defence. In the fifth minute, he attempted to play a low pass from outside the penalty area towards Danny Welbeck, but Liverpool’s defenders intercepted the ball.
The winger also committed a foul in the sixth minute, allowing Liverpool to take a free kick. Although Neto showed individual skill by dribbling past several challenges in the 37th minute, a Liverpool defender eventually dispossessed him before the move could produce a significant threat.
4. Morgan Rogers
Despite scoring Chelsea’s opening goal, Morgan Rogers experienced several frustrating moments before the interval. The forward was caught offside in the 26th minute, disrupting an attacking move, before delivering an unsuccessful cross nine minutes later.
However, Rogers made an important contribution in the 40th minute by winning and converting a penalty to give Chelsea the lead. His goal was a positive moment, although his earlier struggles highlighted the inconsistent nature of Chelsea’s attacking performance.
With the score level at half-time, Chelsea needed a stronger second-half display to improve their chances of progressing in the Carabao Cup.
