Barcelona coaches closely monitoring teenage winger as he waits for first-team chance

According to a report by Barca Universal on Friday November 6, 2026, Barcelona's first-team coaching staff are closely monitoring the development of teenage winger Jesse Bisiwu as the youngster continues to wait for an opportunity to make his competitive debut under manager Hansi Flick.

The 18-year-old attacker joined Barcelona from Club Brugge during the summer transfer window, but he has yet to feature in an official match for the senior team despite being included in the club's first-team plans during pre-season.

According to reports, Barcelona's coaching staff are keeping a close eye on Bisiwu's progress as they assess his adaptation to life at the Spanish champions.

The club have high expectations of the youngster, who arrived at the Spotify Camp Nou in a deal worth €8.5 million, plus add-ons.

His signing was reportedly a personal bet by sporting director Deco and head of scouting Joao Amaral, who identified him as a player with considerable potential.

Barcelona demonstrated their confidence in Bisiwu by handing him a long-term contract until 2031. He was also given the opportunity to train and work with the senior squad during pre-season, where he reportedly impressed with his performances in friendly matches.

However, despite those encouraging displays, the teenager has not yet managed to break into Flick's competitive plans.

Instead, Bisiwu has spent most of his time playing for Barcelona's reserve side, Barça Atletic, under manager Juliano Belletti.

He has made six league appearances for the reserve team so far, recording one assist while continuing to gain valuable experience and adjust to the demands of Spanish football.

Although he has trained with the first team on several occasions, he is yet to receive a call-up to a competitive matchday squad under Flick.

His progress has also been affected by a difficult start to life in Catalonia. Bisiwu suffered an injury during the Copa Catalunya final against CE Sabadell, forcing him to leave the pitch after just 10 minutes.

The injury disrupted his early development and prevented him from enjoying the consistent run of football that could have helped him establish himself more quickly.

There were also registration complications, with La Liga initially withholding his registration because of outstanding visa-related paperwork.

Those problems created further difficulties for the young winger as he attempted to settle into his new surroundings and make progress within Barcelona's development structure.

Nevertheless, the coaching staff have continued to follow his situation closely and are not believed to be in a hurry to rush him into the senior team.

For now, his immediate objective is to establish himself as a regular starter for Barça Atletic and demonstrate that he deserves an opportunity at a higher level.

Barcelona believe that consistent performances with the reserve side will be important in determining when he can make the next step in his development.
