According to a report by Barca Universal on Monday, October 26, 2026, Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi has secured 12th place in the 2026 Ballon d’Or rankings, narrowly missing out on a position among the top 10 despite an impressive campaign.
The 19-year-old enjoyed a successful season with Barcelona, playing an important role as the Catalan giants claimed the La Liga title and Spanish Super Cup. His consistent performances further established him as one of the most exciting young defenders in European football.
Cubarsi also made a strong impression with Spain at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where his defensive contributions reportedly helped the national team lift the trophy.
Although he did not make the top 10, finishing 12th represents considerable recognition for a young centre-back who has continued to perform at the highest level.
Having developed through Barcelona’s renowned La Masia academy, Cubarsi has earned praise for his composure in possession, intelligent positioning and ability to deal with experienced attackers. His progress has made him an increasingly important part of the club’s defensive plans.
The teenager is also among the contenders for the Kopa Trophy, which honours the best young player in world football. However, Barcelona teammate Lamine Yamal was reportedly considered the leading favourite to win the award for a third consecutive year.
Meanwhile, Ferran Torres, who reportedly joined Paris Saint-Germain during the summer transfer window, finished 16th in the 2026 Ballon d’Or standings.
For Cubarsi, the 12th-place finish marks another significant achievement in his developing career and further underlines his growing reputation in the game.
