Chelsea goalkeeper Emi Martínez could be out of action for around 40 days after suffering a jaw injury during the team's 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday.
According to a report by BBC Sports on Sunday, October 18, 2026, the Argentine goalkeeper reportedly underwent surgery following the injury. However, Chelsea have yet to confirm how long he will be unavailable.
The situation could leave head coach Xabi Alonso with the task of finding a replacement while Martínez recovers. His return will depend on his progress and the club's medical assessment.
If the reported 40-day recovery period is accurate, Martínez could miss six Chelsea matches in the Premier League and Carabao Cup.
Chelsea are scheduled to host Tottenham Hotspur on October 24 in their next match on the list. They will then travel to Anfield to face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup fourth round on October 28.
The Blues will return to Premier League action on October 31 when they welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge.
Their next fixture will be an away match against Sunderland on November 8. Chelsea are then expected to host Leeds United on November 21 before travelling to face Nottingham Forest on November 17.
These six matches could be played without Martínez if he requires the full reported recovery period. The possible absence would include the Carabao Cup clash against Liverpool and several Premier League fixtures.
However, the goalkeeper's availability for these games remains uncertain because Chelsea have not officially confirmed his recovery timeline. The reported 40 days should therefore be treated as an estimate, rather than a confirmed period of absence.
