According to a report by Daily Post Nigeria on Thursday, November 5, 2026, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard believes Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso could face a difficult selection decision when Brazilian striker Joao Pedro returns from injury, particularly because of Estevao's impressive performances.

The Brazilian winger made his first Premier League start of the season against Manchester United last weekend and seized the opportunity to demonstrate his quality.

Chelsea claimed a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge, with Estevao standing out for his energy, confidence and ability to take on opposition defenders.

His impressive display has strengthened his argument for a regular place in the starting lineup. However, Chelsea have several talented attacking players competing for limited positions.

Gerrard believes the competition for places will become even fiercer when Joao Pedro returns to full fitness. The quality of Pedro Neto also gives Alonso another selection decision to consider as he looks to find the right balance in attack.

Speaking on The Overlap, Gerrard praised Estevao's exciting style of play and highlighted his determination to impress the Chelsea manager.

“He is exciting and great to watch,” Gerrard said. “He is desperate to impress the manager. And he is going to give Xabi Alonso a problem when Joao Pedro comes back, because Pedro Neto is a great player as well.”

Gerrard's assessment highlights the positive selection headache developing at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea gradually building an attacking squad filled with players capable of making a difference.

Estevao's performance against Manchester United demonstrated the qualities he can offer the team, while Joao Pedro's anticipated return will provide Alonso with additional attacking options.

Nevertheless, the Chelsea manager must identify the best combination of players without compromising the team's overall balance.

If Estevao maintains his current level of performance, Alonso could face a difficult decision over his starting position once Joao Pedro becomes available again.

For the young Brazilian, the priority is to maintain his impressive form and continue proving that he deserves an important role in Chelsea's attacking plans.
