Kane, Mbappe and Yamal Lead Five Favourites for 2027 Ballon d’Or

Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal are among the leading contenders for the 2027 Ballon d’Or after the Bayern Munich striker won football’s most prestigious individual award in 2026.

According to a report by FootballTransfers on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, five players have emerged as strong candidates for next year’s prize, with their performances in domestic competitions and the Champions League expected to play a crucial role in determining the winner.

Barcelona winger Yamal is among the favourites after narrowly missing out on the 2026 award. The teenager has won the Kopa Trophy for three consecutive seasons and will be hoping to translate his impressive form into a first Ballon d’Or triumph.

With no major international tournament scheduled for next summer, Yamal’s chances could depend largely on his achievements with Barcelona, particularly in the Champions League.

Mbappe is another leading contender after finishing second behind Kane in 2026. The Real Madrid forward has scored 14 goals in 13 appearances this season and will be aiming to claim the award for the first time in his career.

The France international’s chances could improve significantly if Real Madrid enjoy a successful campaign under manager Jose Mourinho and return to winning major trophies.

Kane, meanwhile, will attempt to defend his crown after an outstanding 2025-26 season. The England captain remains central to Bayern Munich’s attacking plans under Vincent Kompany, and another Champions League triumph could strengthen his position in the race.

Barcelona forward Raphinha has also earned a place among the leading candidates following his impressive start to the current campaign. The Brazilian has scored 15 goals in 11 appearances, including two hat-tricks in La Liga.

If he maintains that level of performance and helps Barcelona secure major honours, Raphinha could become the first Brazilian to win the Ballon d’Or since Kaka in 2007.

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Vitinha completes the list. The Portugal international has been instrumental in the French club’s recent Champions League success, with his performances in midfield continuing to attract attention.

Although attacking players have traditionally dominated the award, another European triumph for PSG could strengthen Vitinha’s chances.
