Lamine Yamal has achieved another remarkable milestone after becoming the first footballer to secure a place in the Ballon d’Or top 10 for three consecutive years before reaching the age of 20.
According to a report by Barca Universal on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, the Barcelona youngster finished third in the 2026 voting, behind winner Harry Kane and runner-up Kylian Mbappe. Although he missed out on the main award, his latest position further underlines his growing influence in world football.
At 19, Yamal has already built an impressive career. He broke into Barcelona’s senior team at just 15 and has since played a major role in winning several important trophies for club and country.
His achievements include a World Cup, a European Championship, three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey and two Spanish Super Cups.
Yamal first entered the Ballon d’Or top 10 in 2024, when he finished eighth at the age of 17. Rodri claimed the award that year, beating Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham. Despite his limited experience at senior level, the Barcelona forward’s inclusion among the leading candidates attracted widespread attention. He also won his first Kopa Trophy, which recognises the best young player in world football.
A year later, Yamal took another major step forward by finishing second behind Ousmane Dembele in the 2025 Ballon d’Or rankings. His performance brought him close to claiming the prestigious honour at just 18, while retaining the Kopa Trophy for a second successive year.
His third-place finish in 2026 has now extended his extraordinary record to three consecutive appearances in the top 10. It also represents his second podium finish in a row.
The teenager further strengthened his reputation by collecting the Kopa Trophy for the third consecutive time, maintaining his position as one of the most outstanding young players in the game.
Although Yamal will be disappointed not to have won the Ballon d’Or, his performances across the last three editions demonstrate the consistency of his rapid rise. After finishing eighth, second and now third, the Barcelona star will be determined to take the final step and claim the main award in the future.
Given his age and continued development, Yamal is expected to remain a major contender for football’s biggest individual honour in the years ahead.
