Carlos Tevez Names Ex-Man United Team-mates Who Was Better Than Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi

According to a report by London Evening Standard on Wednesday October 28, 2026, putting the legendary midfielder ahead of world superstars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, Carlos Tevez has named Paul Scholes as the best footballer he has ever played with, during his time with Manchester United.

During United's glorious era under Sir Alex Ferguson, the Argentine forward spent two unforgettable seasons at Old Trafford, where he was a key cog in a devastating attacking line that also included Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov, and Ronaldo.

Tevez was well-respected for his relentless running, aggressive attitude, and attacking prowess. Their remarkable understanding during United's trophy-laden spell together is reflected in Rooney's previous description of him as his favorite former strike partner.

Among Manchester United's six trophies from those two years are the 2008 Champions League and two Premier League titles. Tevez still holds dear the memories he made at Old Trafford, even though he later joined Manchester City, a bitter rival.

In an interview with Rio Ferdinand's podcast, the former Argentina international spoke highly of his former teammates and gave his reasons for thinking Scholes was the best of the best among the great footballers he had played with.

After mentioning United's strong attacking options, Ferdinand asked Tevez to select one of two players: David Silva, a former Manchester City midfielder, or Scholes. The retired striker wasted no time getting back to the question.

"Scholes," Tevez said, picking the English midfielder with assurance. He went on to say, "For me, the best player," further emphasizing his adoration, before going into detail about what the former United star had to offer.

During training, Tevez recalled Scholes's uncanny ability to distribute the ball with pinpoint accuracy and a lack of fluff, showcasing his extraordinary technical skill and football intelligence on a consistent basis.

When we were training, do you recall? Just like this, with no words spoken. "First ball," Tevez said, summarizing the midfielder's composed demeanor. In his laudatory remarks, he emphasized Scholes' distribution quality on multiple occasions.

The former striker compared Scholes to another renowned playmaker, Italian legend Andrea Pirlo, while talking about midfield brilliance. Among the footballers who played alongside Scholes, his remarks highlight the enduring respect he commands.
