According to a report by Barca Universal on Tuesday October 20, 2026, Barcelona are monitoring Aston Villa midfielder Johan Manzambi as sporting director Deco evaluates potential reinforcements for next summer’s transfer window. However, the Catalan giants face competition from Bayern Munich for the highly rated Swiss international.
According to Spanish publication MARCA, the 21-year-old has attracted interest from several major European clubs following his impressive performances since joining Aston Villa. Nevertheless, convincing the Premier League side to sell him could prove financially challenging.
Bayern Munich have also been tracking Manzambi, having followed his development during his previous spell at Freiburg. Aston Villa invested €60 million to secure his signature during the summer, potentially complicating any attempt by Barcelona to negotiate a transfer.
Manzambi’s progress has attracted considerable attention from scouts across Europe, with several clubs viewing him as a promising long-term investment. English journalist Graeme Bailey, quoted by MARCA, explained the growing excitement surrounding the midfielder’s performances.
“We know that scouts from some of Europe’s top clubs have been very impressed by Manzambi’s performances,” Bailey said, highlighting the increasing interest in the young Swiss international.
The journalist added that several observers believe the midfielder possesses exceptional potential, with recruitment teams already assessing his development and long-term prospects before deciding whether to pursue him.
“Several of them regard him as a ‘superstar in the making’. Work is already underway behind the scenes, whilst potential suitors assess his development and long-term prospects,” Bailey explained.
Manzambi’s attacking contributions have strengthened his reputation this season. The Aston Villa midfielder has recorded three goals and three assists across six appearances, demonstrating his ability to influence matches beyond his primary midfield responsibilities.
Despite Barcelona’s interest, a transfer remains far from guaranteed. The club must carefully consider its financial position before pursuing an expensive signing, particularly because Aston Villa invested substantially in bringing the midfielder to England.
Barcelona reportedly view Manzambi as a potential summer addition rather than an immediate priority. His arrival could depend on departures from the current squad, available transfer funds and the club’s assessment of his continued development.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are also considering their options ahead of future transfer windows. However, Manzambi reportedly prefers to remain at Aston Villa for now, believing continued development under manager Unai Emery would benefit his career.
Consequently, an immediate departure during the January transfer window appears unlikely. Barcelona may need to wait until next summer before deciding whether to make a formal approach, particularly with Bayern Munich monitoring the situation closely.
With Manzambi reportedly valued at approximately €65 million, Barcelona face a potentially expensive pursuit. Their ability to compete financially with Bayern Munich and convince Aston Villa to negotiate could ultimately determine whether the midfielder moves to Spain.
