According to a report by OwnGoalNigeria on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Ukraine-based goalkeeper Abdulmajeed Danladi has been invited to Nigeria’s U-23 team ahead of their upcoming U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo).
Head coach Eric Chelle has included the 20-year-old goalkeeper in his plans for the two-legged qualifying tie after being impressed by his performances for Kryvbas U-21 in Ukraine.
Danladi has been progressing through the club’s youth ranks, having moved from the U-19 team two years ago.
His development has also earned him a place on the bench of Kryvbas’ first team for league matches this season.
The invitation represents an opportunity for the young goalkeeper to gain experience with Nigeria’s U-23 side as the team prepares for the crucial qualifiers.
Danladi is expected to join the Nigerian team in DR Congo for the first leg before the players return to Nigeria for the second encounter.
Chelle is reportedly planning to assemble a squad comprising players from Nigerian clubs and those playing abroad as he seeks to guide the team through the qualifying campaign.
However, it remains unclear whether Danladi will be the first-choice goalkeeper for the matches.
According to the report, the coach is also expected to invite three goalkeepers from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), alongside two other shot-stoppers based abroad.
The competition for the goalkeeping positions is therefore expected to be intense as the players seek to impress the coaching staff ahead of the two encounters.
