According to a report by Barca Universal on Saturday October 17, 2026, former Barcelona defender Damià Abella believes Hansi Flick's current team has the potential to become one of the most influential sides in the club's history, provided they can translate their impressive performances into major trophies.

Barcelona have made an excellent start to the 2026/27 season, attracting widespread praise for their attacking football, aggressive pressing and ability to dominate opponents across competitions.

Their performances have raised expectations among supporters, with Flick continuing to develop a team that combines Barcelona's traditional technical quality with a more direct and physically demanding style of play.

Speaking to Flashscore ahead of Barcelona's meeting with Real Betis, Abella, who currently works on Fiorentina's coaching staff, expressed his admiration for the Catalan club.

According to SPORT, the former defender named Barcelona alongside Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich as the teams he most enjoys watching at the moment.

Abella particularly praised Barcelona's ability to play at a tremendous speed without abandoning the technical principles that have long defined the club.

He also highlighted their aggressive defensive approach, willingness to take risks and ability to combine entertaining football with efficiency.

The former defender believes these qualities could help Flick's team establish a lasting legacy at Camp Nou.

He explained that Barcelona could become a reference point in the club's history if they manage to win a major trophy, potentially developing into a transformative team under the German manager.

Barcelona have enjoyed several memorable periods throughout their history, with Pep Guardiola's team widely recognised for its influence on modern football.

Guardiola's side became famous for its possession-based approach, positional play and ability to control matches through intricate passing combinations.

Flick's Barcelona, however, are developing a different identity while retaining the technical quality associated with the club.

The German manager places considerable emphasis on high pressing, rapid transitions and an aggressive defensive line designed to keep opponents under pressure.

This approach allows Barcelona to attack quickly after recovering possession while creating opportunities to exploit spaces in the opposition's defence.

Although the system carries defensive risks, its attacking potential has made Flick's team an exciting side to watch.

The squad's balance between talented academy graduates and carefully selected signings has also contributed to the team's development.

Barcelona will hope to maintain these qualities as the season progresses, particularly when they face stronger opposition in European competition.

Despite their encouraging start, Flick and his players know that consistent performances alone will not be enough to secure a place among Barcelona's greatest teams.

Winning major trophies remains the most important measure of success, especially in the Champions League.

Barcelona have a rich history in European football, and another successful campaign would strengthen Flick's position as the manager leading a potentially historic project.

Their upcoming meeting with Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes represents another important test of their progress.
