According to a report by GOAL on Wednesday November 4, 2026, Barcelona have been handed a major injury scare ahead of their crucial La Liga meeting with Atletico Madrid after Rodri picked up a hamstring problem during Tuesday night's Champions League victory over Aston Villa.
The midfielder was forced off during Barcelona's 3-0 win after experiencing discomfort in his right hamstring, leaving manager Hansi Flick facing uncertainty over his availability for Sunday's trip to the Spanish capital.
Rodri reportedly requested to be substituted towards the end of the first half after feeling pain in the affected area. Barcelona's medical staff decided not to take any risks and withdrew the 30-year-old at the break.
Marc Bernal replaced him for the second half, partnering Pedri in midfield as Barcelona maintained their control of the contest and secured a clean sheet.
Speaking after the match, Flick confirmed that Rodri had experienced discomfort but admitted that the club were still waiting for further medical examinations to establish the seriousness of the problem.
"He had some discomfort. We have to wait until [Thursday] for the tests," the German manager said.
According to reports, Rodri was scheduled to undergo initial assessments during Barcelona's recovery session on Wednesday.
The results of those examinations will determine whether the midfielder can recover in time to face Atletico Madrid on Sunday, November 8.
Rodri's potential absence would represent a significant setback for Barcelona, considering his importance to Flick's midfield plans.
The former Manchester City midfielder has already accumulated 945 minutes across 14 appearances this season, making him one of the German manager's most regularly used players.
His workload was particularly evident during Barcelona's recent 6-1 victory over Alaves, where he completed the entire match despite several important teammates, including Pedri, Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, being rested after the team established a comfortable advantage.
If Rodri is ruled out of the Atletico Madrid encounter, Bernal could be handed the responsibility of replacing him in the starting lineup.
The youngster impressed after coming off the bench against Aston Villa, but replacing Rodri's experience, positional awareness and ability to dictate the tempo of games would be a difficult task against Diego Simeone's side.
Barcelona will be desperate to have their midfield anchor available as they look to maintain their position at the top of La Liga.
