Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior has joined several football personalities in paying tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo after the Portuguese superstar announced his retirement from international football.
Ronaldo, who is 41, revealed his decision through an emotional video shared across his social media platforms on November 5, 2026. His announcement marked the conclusion of an outstanding 23-year journey with the Portugal national team, during which he established himself as one of the most successful players in international football history.
Following the announcement, tributes began pouring in from footballers, former teammates, clubs and supporters around the world. Among those who reacted was Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior, who expressed his admiration through a comment on Ronaldo's Instagram post.
Vinicius wrote, "Forever number 1!!!!!!" His brief message reflected the respect he has for the former Real Madrid captain and the remarkable achievements he has recorded throughout his football career.
The Brazilian's reaction is particularly notable because Ronaldo spent nine successful seasons at Real Madrid before joining Juventus in 2018. The two players also shared the dressing room during the 2018/19 campaign, when Vinicius was beginning to establish himself in European football.
Ronaldo finishes his international career with 234 appearances and 146 goals for Portugal, making him the leading men's international goalscorer and record appearance holder. He also guided his country to victory at the 2016 European Championship and the UEFA Nations League in 2019 and 2025.
Despite ending his international journey, Ronaldo has no immediate plans to retire from professional football. He is expected to continue his playing career with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr.
His departure from international football marks the end of a historic chapter, while his achievements continue to inspire younger players, including Vinicius Junior.
