According to a report from FootballTransfers, on Monday November 02, 2026, Cole Palmer has praised Romeo Lavia’s display in Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Manchester United, describing the Belgian as one of his favourite midfielders.
Lavia, 22, joined Chelsea from Southampton for €62 million but has struggled to maintain consistent fitness during his time at the club.
Despite those setbacks, he has become an important member of Xabi Alonso’s side this season and could have an extended run in the starting lineup while Reece James is unavailable.
Speculation has suggested Chelsea might consider selling Lavia because of his injury record. Palmer, however, believes the midfielder deserves the club’s support.
“Today was one of the best games I’ve seen him play,” Palmer said after the match. “I’ve said all along he’s one of my favourite midfielders, and people still don’t realise how good he is. He’s had injury problems, but he’s trying to put that behind him. I thought he was the best player on the pitch.”
Lavia has more than three and a half years left on his Chelsea contract. Although the club are reportedly keen to pursue Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott in January, Lavia’s recent form could make a sale less likely.
Other Chelsea players face greater uncertainty. Jamie Gittens’ potential move to AS Roma collapsed over the summer, while reports have linked Malo Gusto with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.
Chelsea may also consider permanent departures for several players currently on loan, including Benoit Badiashile, Alejandro Garnacho, Robert Sanchez, Axel Disasi, Mykhailo Mudryk and Filip Jorgensen, once their loan spells end.
