According to a report by Barca Universal on Tuesday November 3, 2026, Barcelona have identified Arsenal defender Piero Hincapie as one of their major defensive targets ahead of the January transfer window.
The Catalan club are keen to strengthen their backline after several injury setbacks have left manager Hansi Flick with limited options in defence.
Eric Garcia, Jules Kounde, Xavi Espart and Andreas Christensen are among the players who have suffered injuries, forcing Barcelona to explore the possibility of bringing in reinforcements when the transfer window opens.
According to reports, Hincapie has emerged as a leading option on sporting director Deco's transfer shortlist.
The Ecuadorian international has struggled to secure regular playing time at Arsenal this season, managing just over 250 minutes of competitive action.
Despite his impressive reputation from his time at Bayer Leverkusen, Hincapie has found opportunities difficult to come by because of the competition in Mikel Arteta's defensive department.
The 24-year-old faces competition from William Saliba, Gabriel, Cristhian Mosquera and Riccardo Calafiori, among others.
Barcelona are reportedly aware of his situation, with Deco said to have already contacted the defender's representatives to discuss the possibility of a January move.
Hincapie's versatility is believed to be one of the major reasons behind Barcelona's interest.
The defender can operate both as a centre-back and a left-back, providing Flick with additional options in two important positions.
His left-footedness and ability to play out from the back also make him an attractive option for a Barcelona side that places considerable importance on building attacks from defence.
He could potentially provide competition for Pau Cubarsi in central defence while also offering cover at left-back, particularly with Barcelona reportedly considering Alejandro Balde's future.
However, completing a deal could prove difficult for the Spanish champions.
Arteta reportedly rates Hincapie highly and is reluctant to lose him, believing the defender could play an important role during the remainder of the season.
Arsenal are also in a strong negotiating position because Hincapie's contract runs until 2031, meaning Barcelona could be required to pay a substantial transfer fee to secure his services.
