According to a report by Barca Universal on Tuesday November 3, 2026, Villarreal striker Georges Mikautadze has opened up about Barcelona's previous interest in signing him, admitting that he is ready to take the next step in his career by joining a major European club.
The Georgia international has attracted attention following his performances in Spain, with Barcelona among the clubs reportedly monitoring his situation.
Mikautadze enjoyed an impressive first season after arriving from Lyon, scoring 16 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions.
His performances reportedly caught the attention of Barcelona sporting director Deco, who viewed him as a potential attacking reinforcement during the summer transfer window.
However, Barcelona eventually decided against pursuing the deal, with manager Hansi Flick reportedly unconvinced that the striker was the right option for his team.
Despite the transfer not materialising, Mikautadze has admitted that Barcelona's interest was flattering, particularly because he supported the Catalan club during his childhood.
Speaking about his ambitions and future, the 26-year-old made it clear that he believes he has the qualities to play for a bigger club.
“I’ve turned 26, but I think I’m ready to move to a big club. I have everything it takes, and I try to show that every time. Maybe I just need a little more time,” he said, as reported by The Touchline.
The Villarreal forward also revealed his admiration for Barcelona, explaining that he grew up following the club during the days of Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and the famous attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.
“Barcelona’s interest? Yes, it’s flattering and gives me even more motivation. It also means I’m doing a good job.
“Besides, when I was young, I was a Barcelona fan, ever since the days of Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets and MSN. But I hadn’t really thought much about it,” he added.
Meanwhile, Mikautadze's current campaign has been more difficult compared to his previous season at Villarreal.
The striker has scored five goals in 15 appearances across all competitions but has started only five La Liga matches.
His limited involvement has reportedly been a source of frustration, with the Georgian keen to play regularly and establish himself as an important figure in the team.
Although there is currently no indication that Barcelona are preparing another move for Mikautadze, his latest comments have made his ambitions clear.
The Villarreal forward wants to compete at the highest level, and a potential opportunity to join a major European club could become an important development in his career.
