According to a report by London Evening Standard on Monday October 26, 2026, Manchester United manager Michael Carrick remains under serious pressure following the club’s disappointing 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth, with reports suggesting his position is hanging by a thread.
The result extended United’s winless run to eight matches, increasing the likelihood of a managerial change in the coming days.
Carrick replaced Ruben Amorim in January and initially enjoyed an impressive spell in charge. He guided United to Champions League qualification after a strong finish to the 2025/26 campaign. However, the former midfielder has struggled to maintain that momentum this season.
United have collected just seven points from their opening eight Premier League matches. Their poor start has left them languishing in 16th place, raising serious concerns about the team’s direction.
The pressure intensified following Wednesday’s humiliating 4-0 defeat away to Como, managed by Cesc Fabregas. Carrick was reportedly close to losing his job after that result, and the subsequent loss to Bournemouth has further weakened his position.
According to Sky Sports, Carrick’s future at Old Trafford is now extremely uncertain. There is growing expectation that the club could dismiss him within the next few days.
United are reportedly considering potential replacements, with Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe and former Tottenham and Chelsea boss Antonio Conte among the names attracting attention.
The atmosphere surrounding the club has also deteriorated. Lisandro Martinez and Bruno Fernandes have publicly questioned aspects of United’s situation in recent days, while Fernandes was subsequently dropped.
Carrick had passionately defended his commitment during Friday’s press conference. He acknowledged the club’s difficulties and expressed his determination to restore United to their former glory. However, his future remains uncertain despite those assurances.
Following Sunday’s defeat, supporters directed much of their frustration towards the club’s executives while continuing to sing Carrick’s chant.
The manager accepted responsibility for the disappointing results and admitted he understood the seriousness of the situation. He insisted he would continue working normally without anticipating any particular decision.
United are scheduled to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. However, Carrick could not confirm whether he would still be in charge for that crucial Premier League encounter.
