Real Madrid have reportedly warned Vinicius Junior that he has one month to improve his performances or risk losing his place in the starting lineup, amid growing concerns over his current form and physical condition.
According to a report by Football Transfers on Friday, November 6, 2026, the Brazilian forward has scored just once this season despite signing a lucrative contract extension during the summer. His recent displays have reportedly raised concerns about his contribution to Jose Mourinho’s side.
His difficulties were particularly evident during Wednesday’s 3-2 Champions League victory over AEK Athens. Vinicius failed to complete a single dribble attempt before being substituted in the 81st minute, shortly before Real Madrid found the winning goal.
According to El Debate, the Spanish giants are examining several factors that could explain the winger’s decline, including his physical condition, personal circumstances and overall wellbeing. The club is also reportedly investigating whether changes in his body have affected the pace and explosiveness that previously made him such a dangerous attacker.
Madrid officials are said to be planning a direct conversation with the 26-year-old to understand the challenges affecting his performances. Mourinho, meanwhile, has publicly defended the Brazilian and remains hopeful that he can regain his confidence.
However, the manager is reportedly expecting noticeable improvement before December’s important fixtures against Arsenal and Athletic Bilbao. Vinicius has recorded only one goal and one assist in his last nine appearances across all competitions.
Mourinho has continued to include him in the team, believing that regular playing time could help him recover his attacking rhythm. Nevertheless, competition for his position is increasing following the arrival of summer signing Yan Diomande, who joined for €125 million and also prefers playing on the left wing.
Another concern for Vinicius is his reduced involvement over the full duration of matches. He has not completed 90 minutes in the last two months, while his average number of successful dribbles has fallen from 2.4 last season to 1.8 this campaign.
Club sources reportedly summed up the situation by saying: “He needs to work hard to bring back his magic”. They also indicated that the Brazilian is aware of his difficulties and understands the need to improve.
Real Madrid are expected to assess his displays in upcoming matches against Celta Vigo, PSV and Alaves. If his performances fail to improve, Mourinho could consider dropping him from the starting lineup in favour of teammates currently making a stronger contribution.
