Nigerian Father Blocks Son’s Transfer For the Second Time

According to a report by OwnGoal Nigeria on Sunday, October 18, 2026, the father of Nigerian teenage forward Excell Agada has blocked his son’s for the second time after rejecting a proposed transfer from Slovakian club AS Trenčín.

Barrister Agada has made his position clear, stating that his son will not be permitted to move abroad until he completes his examinations and obtains passing grades.

The decision follows a similar incident six months ago, when the lawyer intervened to prevent his son from completing a proposed move to Sweden.

Excell’s father comes from a family of doctors and lawyers and had hoped that his son would pursue a career in law.

However, the teenager’s natural footballing ability has opened up opportunities to pursue a professional career in the sport.

Standing at 6ft 5in (1.96 m), the young forward has attracted interest from several European clubs, with scouts and agents from Sweden, Norway, Saudi Arabia, and Slovakia reportedly seeking to secure his services before he turns 18.

His father previously went as far as hiding his passport to prevent him from making what he considered a premature move abroad.

Although football agents subsequently obtained travel documents for the youngster, Barrister Agada used his legal authority as the boy’s father to stop the proposed transfers while he was still a minor.

AS Trenčín has now joined the list of clubs waiting for the teenager to become available, with his father maintaining that education must come before any move to Europe.

Meanwhile, GBS Academy’s head of operations, Coach Bros, has expressed understanding for both the father’s position and the youngster’s desire to pursue his football career.

“Normally we discourage external interference, but we will respect the wish of the father. Modern footballers are schooling these days, look at big talents like Max Dowman and Lamine Yamal, they are all studying,” Coach Bros said, as quoted by OwnGoal Nigeria.

The academy official acknowledged the youngster’s eagerness to play professionally, describing him as an exceptionally determined talent.

“I can also understand the boy, he’s eager to play because he is a gifted player. In my time in football I have not seen a determined talent like him. Education will even enhance him more,” he added.

Coach Bros expressed confidence that Excell would pass his examinations, noting that the youngster was expected to finish them by the following month.
