Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler claims Liverpool didn't play to win after Brighton fell 2-0 to the Reds on Sunday.
According to a report by Daily Mall on Sunday October 25, 2026, Brighton conceded an own goal from Pascal Gros and a goal from Alexander Isak to give Liverpool their fourth game in a row. But Hurzeler believed Brighton created plenty of chances to improve their return.
Hurzeler praised his players' for playing according to their game plan and creating chances.
"I think everyone saw in the game that there was one team that really wanted to create chances, they really wanted to win and you have to praise the players," Hurzeler said.
Whilst he didn't specifically point the finger at Liverpool for not being ambitious in attack, he appeared frustrated by their performance. However, he insisted Brighton had put in enough to make it harder for Liverpool.
They had a great chance to go ahead before the Reds scored with Yasin Ayari missing a great chance. But Brighton also had other chances which they couldn't capitalise on.
"Everyone saw we had an opportunity there," he added.
"We had one, two big chances before they scored so it was just a matter of they scored and we didn't."
Brighton's failure to capitalise on their chances meant Liverpool took control of the game after the own goal. They scored their second through Isak to give them four games in a row and strengthen their position in the Premier League top four.
Despite losing, Hurzeler was pleased with certain aspects of Brighton's performance and praised his players for playing according to their plan.
"Overall I saw a team that had lots of positives. A team that had real belief in what we were doing. Playing according to our match plan and they never gave up," he said.
