According to a report by Sky Sports on Wednesday November 4, 2026, Liverpool forward Bradley Barcola has sent a clear message to supporters following his slow start to life at Anfield, insisting that he does not want to be compared with Mohamed Salah.
The French winger acknowledged the Egyptian's legendary status at Liverpool but stressed that he wants to establish his own identity and make his own contribution to the club's history.
Barcola joined Liverpool in a reported €145 million deal during the summer transfer window following Salah's departure from Anfield.
However, the 23-year-old has struggled to make an immediate impact in the Premier League, having failed to score in the competition since arriving at the club.
Despite his domestic struggles, Barcola has shown encouraging signs in Europe, scoring three goals in three Champions League appearances.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the Liverpool forward admitted that he is still developing and believes supporters have yet to see the best version of him. "No, I don't think I'm at my best yet," Barcola said.
He further explained that his performances should improve as he develops a better understanding with his teammates, adding that he has already noticed progress in their relationship on the pitch.
Barcola also addressed the pressure surrounding his transfer fee, insisting that he was not responsible for the amount Liverpool decided to pay to secure his services.
"First of all, I wasn't the one who decided the transfer fee. So that's not been my problem," he stated.
The Frenchman also made it clear that he does not feel pressured to replicate Salah's achievements at Liverpool, describing the former Reds forward as a legend who deserves enormous respect.
"He's a legend here. A huge one. He's done big things here and for that I have an enormous respect for him. But it's not pressure for me at all. I'm not Mohamed Salah, so I'm going to try to contribute whatever I can to the club and make my own mark on its history. I don't feel any pressure about that," Barcola said.
Meanwhile, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher previously questioned whether Barcola was the right player to replace Salah following the Egyptian's departure.
Although Carragher admitted that he admired the Frenchman's ability, he argued that the winger's preferred position made him an unsuitable direct replacement for Salah.
Salah left Liverpool during the summer after reportedly bringing his contract to an early end following a disagreement with manager Arne Slot.
Barcola will now be hoping to improve his Premier League performances and justify the significant investment Liverpool made to bring him to Anfield.
The forward remains confident that his best performances are still ahead of him as he looks to build a successful career at Liverpool without carrying the burden of replacing everything Salah achieved at the club.
