According to a report by Barca Universal on Monday October 26, 2026, Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi has finished 12th in the 2026 Ballon d’Or rankings after an impressive season for club and country.
The teenage centre-back had been tipped to secure a place in the top 10 following his consistent performances for Barcelona and Spain. However, the final standings placed him just outside the leading group.
Cubarsi was a regular member of the Barcelona side that won La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup last season, establishing himself as one of the club’s most reliable defensive options despite his young age.
His performances also earned him recognition on the international stage during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. According to the report, the Barcelona youngster helped Spain win the tournament and was named the FIFA Young Player of the Tournament.
Those achievements raised expectations that Cubarsi could finish inside the Ballon d’Or top 10, making his 12th-place position a slight disappointment for those hoping to see him climb higher.
Nevertheless, finishing 12th represents a significant achievement for a defender at his stage of development, particularly in an award that often attracts attention for its recognition of attacking players.
Cubarsi also remains one of Barcelona’s most promising young talents, with his composure, positional awareness and ability to play out from the back making him an important part of the team.
Meanwhile, Barcelona teammate Lamine Yamal remains among the leading contenders for the 2026 Ballon d’Or. Reports also suggest that the winger has won the Kopa Trophy for a third consecutive year.
Former Barcelona forward Ferran Torres, who reportedly joined Paris Saint-Germain during the summer transfer window, finished 16th in the Ballon d’Or rankings.
