According to a report by Daily Mail on Saturday October 31, 2026, Manchester United have expressed interest in signing Barcelona midfielder Fermín López as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the January transfer window.
According to the Daily Mail, United are monitoring the 23-year-old Spain international, who has attracted interest from several European clubs following his impressive performances for the Catalan giants.
López is valued at around £70 million and has also emerged as a transfer target for Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.
The midfielder has scored five goals for Barcelona this season and is regarded as an important member of Hansi Flick's squad. However, Manchester United are aware that their financial situation could make a potential deal difficult.
United's interest comes as they face an attacking crisis following Benjamin Sesko's injury setback.
The Slovenian striker is feared to be out until at least January with a shin injury, leaving manager Michael Carrick without a recognised centre-forward.
The Red Devils are therefore exploring possible options to strengthen their attack during the winter transfer window.
Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is another player who has been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
United previously considered signing the England international during his time at Everton but ultimately decided against making a move.
However, a potential deal could prove difficult because of the fierce rivalry between Manchester United and Leeds United. Calvert-Lewin is also reportedly discussing a new contract with Leeds following his impressive performances.
The 29-year-old has scored 20 goals in 49 appearances for Leeds since joining the club on a free transfer in the summer of 2025, including five goals in his first 10 matches this season.
Meanwhile, Manchester United could also consider strengthening their defence in January if additional funds become available.
With Sesko facing a spell on the sidelines, Carrick will be hoping the club can secure attacking reinforcements to improve their goalscoring options for the second half of the campaign.
