Chelsea prepare 'massive bid' for €116m superstar

Chelsea are reportedly considering a huge offer for Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez as Xabi Alonso looks to strengthen his squad, despite the Spaniard’s reluctance to leave Camp Nou.

According to a report by FootballTransfers on Thursday, 29 October 2026, Chelsea remain interested in signing the 23-year-old after failing to secure his services in 2025, with Paris Saint-Germain also monitoring his situation.

Fermin has established himself as an important member of Hansi Flick’s Barcelona squad, recording nine goal contributions in 12 appearances across all competitions this season. His impressive performances have attracted interest from several leading European clubs.

The midfielder signed a new long-term contract with Barcelona earlier this year, keeping him at the club until 2031.

However, his extended deal has not stopped Chelsea and PSG from exploring the possibility of bringing him to their respective teams.

According to The Daily Briefing, PSG are preparing an offer worth €80 million, while Chelsea are considering a significantly larger bid for the Spain international.

Fermin has an estimated transfer value of €116.5 million, with a projected range of €104.8 million to €128.1 million.

Barcelona could reportedly consider selling him if they receive a substantial offer, although the player is understood to have no intention of leaving the Catalan club.

Arsenal and Manchester United have also made checks on the midfielder in recent months, adding to the competition for his signature.

Despite Chelsea’s interest, a January move appears unlikely. Fermin is not currently considered the club’s primary transfer target, while Barcelona would be reluctant to lose an influential player midway through the season as they pursue Champions League success.

Instead, Alonso’s side are expected to prioritise Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, whom they unsuccessfully pursued during the summer transfer window.

Chelsea view Scott as a major target for 2027 following Enzo Fernandez’s move to Manchester City on transfer deadline day.

However, securing the England international will not be straightforward, with Bournemouth reportedly demanding around €120 million.

Liverpool are also interested in Scott, setting up potential competition between the Premier League rivals.
