Chelsea youngster Genesis Antwi has earned his first senior international call-up after impressing during his loan spell at Strasbourg, with former Blues manager Graham Potter selecting the teenage defender for Sweden's upcoming fixtures.
According to a report by The Athletic on Friday, November 6, 2026, the 19-year-old right-back has been named in Sweden's squad for the November international break following his impressive performances in the French top flight.
Antwi has quickly established himself as an important member of the Strasbourg squad since completing a season-long loan move from Chelsea during the summer. The youngster has started eight consecutive Ligue 1 matches, with his consistent displays attracting the attention of Potter, who currently manages the Swedish national team.
His rapid development represents another encouraging sign of Chelsea's loan strategy, particularly as several players from the London club, including Dario Essugo and Filip Jorgensen, are also gaining valuable experience at Strasbourg this season.
Antwi joined Chelsea's academy at just 11 years old and gradually progressed through the club's youth system at Cobham before making his senior debut in March 2025 during the Conference League encounter against Copenhagen.
His impressive performances for Chelsea's Under-21 team throughout the 2025/26 campaign helped him secure a temporary move to France, where he has continued to improve and gain experience at senior level.
Sweden are scheduled to face Bosnia and Herzegovina and Poland during the upcoming Nations League fixtures, giving Antwi the opportunity to make his first appearance for the senior national team.
The defender's international future has also attracted attention because of his eligibility to represent several countries. Antwi previously featured for England at under-16 level before representing Sweden at under-17, under-19 and under-21 levels. He has now opted to continue his international career with Sweden.
Interestingly, both of his parents are originally from Ghana, meaning the Chelsea youngster was also eligible to represent the West African nation before committing his future to Sweden.
Should Antwi make his senior international debut, his ability to switch allegiance to England or Ghana would be restricted by FIFA's international eligibility regulations, although certain exceptions apply under the governing body's rules.
The teenager could also become only the second Chelsea player to represent Sweden at senior international level. Former goalkeeper Magnus Hedman previously earned 58 caps for his country, although he did not make a first-team appearance during his short spell at Stamford Bridge.
Antwi's maiden international call-up represents a significant achievement in his young career and further highlights his growing reputation as he continues to develop his potential during his loan spell away from Chelsea.
