Nigerian football administrator Samson Adamu has been officially appointed as the substantive General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football following a comprehensive competitive recruitment and selection process conducted by the continental sports governing body.
According to a report by Punch Newspaper on Sunday, November 1, 2026, while announcing the appointment in an official website statement, CAF confirmed that Adamu had served as acting General Secretary since March after Veron Mosengo-Omba stepped down.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe stated that the appointment process involved advertising the high-level role widely and conducting extensive candidate interviews, noting that Adamu brings years of valuable administrative experience within African football systems.
Adamu previously joined the continental governing organization in 2018 as Director of Competitions before eventually advancing to serve as Director of Tournaments and Events, managing major regional football events across the African continent.
The newly appointed administrator holds an advanced postgraduate degree from the prestigious FIFA Master programme in International Management, Law and Humanities of Sport, equipping him with extensive institutional knowledge for governing continental football operations.
Motsepe highlighted that Adamu played a leading role in delivering several major African football tournaments, including CAF’s flagship competition, the Africa Cup of Nations, while demonstrating exceptional administrative leadership throughout his tenure.
In his new role, Adamu will directly oversee CAF’s daily administrative operations, following in the footsteps of notable previous General Secretaries while supporting the strategic priorities established by the continental football governing body.
