Charlton Athletic 0-6 Chelsea: Blues Return to WSL Summit with Emphatic Victory

According to a report by BBC Sport on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Ellie Carpenter was named Player of the Match after helping Chelsea secure an emphatic 6-0 victory over Charlton Athletic to return to the top of the Women's Super League table.

The Australian defender scored Chelsea's third goal and played an important role as Sonia Bompastor's side produced a dominant performance at The Valley.

Chelsea made a blistering start, opening the scoring just three minutes into the encounter. Katie McCabe delivered a cross into the penalty area, and Nathalie Bjorn rose highest to direct a looping header into the far corner.

The visitors doubled their advantage in the 10th minute through Melvine Malard, who scored from close range after Charlton goalkeeper Anna Koivunen fumbled the ball into her own net.

Three minutes later, Carpenter extended Chelsea's lead. Lauren James' effort from the edge of the penalty area was parried by Koivunen, but the defender reacted quickest to slot the rebound home for her second goal in as many matches.

Chelsea continued to dominate and added a fourth goal in the 19th minute. Malard poked the ball into the net to complete her brace after the hosts struggled to contain the visitors' attacking threat.

The French forward appeared to have completed a 12-minute hat-trick shortly afterwards, but her effort was ruled out for a tight offside decision.

Chelsea suffered a setback in the 35th minute when James was forced off after going down while attempting to run onto the ball.

The visitors maintained their attacking pressure after the break and scored their fifth goal in the 57th minute. Substitute Aggie Beever-Jones latched onto a clever flick from Keira Walsh before finding the net for her first goal since September 2025.

Giulia Dragoni completed the scoring nine minutes later, producing an excellent turn before finishing to register her first goal for Chelsea.

Chelsea continued to threaten, with Sandy Baltimore and Maika Hamano hitting the woodwork, while Alyssa Thompson missed an opportunity to add another.

The victory was Chelsea's seventh consecutive league win after their opening-day draw against Aston Villa. They are level on points with Manchester City but move above the defending champions on goal difference.

Meanwhile, Charlton remain bottom of the table without a point after eight matches, having conceded 25 goals.
