Ex-Man Utd teammate reveals Cristiano Ronaldo’s next move after retirement

According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday October 17, 2026, former Manchester United defender Danny Simpson has suggested that Cristiano Ronaldo could become a football manager after retiring from professional football, insisting that the Portuguese superstar possesses the qualities needed to succeed in the role.

Ronaldo, who currently plays for Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, is approaching another important stage of his career, with reports suggesting that he could retire at the end of the current season.

Speaking to GOAL, Simpson, who previously played alongside Ronaldo at Manchester United, explained why he believes the five-time Ballon d'Or winner could be suited to a managerial career.

“It would be interesting, Ronaldo as manager, but I think the way he speaks, the way he is, his standards, what he expects, especially when he came back to United,” Simpson said.

“I think he’s got it in him to be a top manager and know the game and study the game. It would be interesting to see him.”

Simpson pointed to Ronaldo's personality, discipline and high expectations as qualities that could serve him well if he decided to move into coaching after hanging up his boots.

Throughout his career, Ronaldo has played under several renowned managers, including Sir Alex Ferguson, Carlo Ancelotti, Zinedine Zidane and José Mourinho. Learning from such experienced coaches could provide him with valuable knowledge should he eventually decide to take charge of a team.

However, becoming a successful manager would require more than the qualities that have made him one of football's greatest players. Ronaldo would also need to develop his tactical approach, coaching methods and ability to manage players with different personalities.

Meanwhile, questions continue to surround Ronaldo's future at Al-Nassr. His current contract is scheduled to expire next summer, and discussions over a possible new deal have reportedly not yet begun.

The uncertainty has fuelled speculation about how long the 41-year-old intends to continue playing professionally, although his retirement plans have not been officially confirmed.

Ronaldo has enjoyed an extraordinary career, winning major domestic and European trophies and establishing himself as one of the most prolific goalscorers in football history.

Whether he chooses to remain involved in the game through management or pursue a different opportunity after retirement remains unclear.
