Barcelona Suffer Triple Injury Scare Ahead of PSG and Real Madrid Clashes

According to a report by Barca Universal on Sunday October 18, 2026, Barcelona have suffered a worrying injury setback after Gerard Martin, Eric Garcia and Jules Kounde reportedly experienced physical problems during their 5-2 victory over Real Betis on Saturday.

The defensive concerns have emerged just days before their crucial Champions League encounter against Paris Saint-Germain and the upcoming El Clasico against Real Madrid.

Hansi Flick's side maintained their perfect winning record this season with an impressive attacking performance against Betis. However, the result was overshadowed by concerns over the fitness of three defenders ahead of a demanding schedule.

Gerard Martin was the first player to experience discomfort after sustaining a blow to his heel during the opening minutes. The defender was attempting to clear an aerial ball when Cucho Hernandez landed on his heel during the incident.

Martin continued playing despite visibly limping, completing the first half before Flick substituted him during the interval as a precaution. According to Diario SPORT, the decision was not considered serious, and the defender is still expected to be available for the meeting with PSG.

Eric Garcia subsequently suffered another setback late in the match. The defender had scored Barcelona's fourth goal before being forced off after experiencing pain in his right knee area.

Television footage showed Garcia holding the area between his knee and quadriceps while sitting on the bench. Reports also indicated that he left the stadium with a heavy bandage around the affected area.

Medical examinations were scheduled to determine the severity of his injury. Garcia's condition is particularly concerning because Flick reportedly considers him the preferred option at right-back ahead of Jules Kounde for the upcoming high-profile fixtures.

Kounde also reportedly finished the encounter with physical discomfort, adding to Barcelona's defensive worries.

Speaking after the match, Flick explained that Garcia believed he had suffered only a knock, although further assessment was necessary. The German coach also confirmed that Martin had experienced problems during the game.

Barcelona now face an anxious wait for updates as they prepare for PSG in three days and Real Madrid eight days later.
