Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard believes Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea are the three teams capable of challenging Arsenal for the Premier League title this season, despite backing Mikel Arteta's side to retain their crown.
According to a report by Metro on Monday, November 2, 2026, Gerrard maintained his prediction that Arsenal would win consecutive Premier League titles but warned that three major rivals could make the race difficult.
Arsenal strengthened their position at the top of the table on Sunday after securing a crucial 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield. Kai Havertz scored the decisive goal in the first half to give the Gunners all three points in a difficult away fixture.
The result became even more significant after Manchester City suffered a 1-0 home defeat against Brighton, allowing Arsenal to capitalise and strengthen their position in the title race.
Speaking on The Overlap Daily, Gerrard praised Arsenal's determination and organisation, explaining that their ability to win difficult matches could prove decisive over the course of the campaign.
He said: "Credit to Arsenal because that's how you win leagues, going to places like Liverpool, being strong, sticking together, and putting in a different type of performance."
The former Liverpool captain also suggested that his old club have considerable work to do to close the gap on Arsenal, particularly after falling nine points behind the league leaders at the time of his comments.
However, Gerrard believes Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea possess the squad quality and depth required to remain competitive throughout the demanding 38-game season.
He specifically included Chelsea among the clubs capable of challenging Arsenal, pointing to their quality and potential to improve as the campaign progresses under Xabi Alonso.
Gerrard said: "I just think where Arsenal's squad is, and City's, the Liverpool squad, I just think over the course of the 38 games, the three teams, and Chelsea, when you look at Chelsea in the second half there, I think them teams will pull away a bit over the course."
He also acknowledged Brighton's impressive performances under Fabian Hurzeler but questioned whether they have sufficient squad depth to maintain a sustained title challenge.
Despite identifying four potential challengers, Gerrard remains convinced that Arsenal have the consistency and squad strength to finish the season as champions.
