Liverpool Increasingly Likely to Pay €55 Million for Ronald Araujo as Barcelona Loanee Impresses

According to a report by Barca Universal on Thursday October 22, 2026, after Ronald Araujo's stellar play as a loanee at Anfield under manager Andoni Iraola this season, Liverpool are seriously contemplating making the move permanent next summer.

The Premier League club reportedly has a €55 million buyout clause in the deal that would enable them to permanently sign the Uruguayan international player if he continues to impress.

Despite changing positions from center back—his preferred position—to right back—where his physical strength, defensive aggression, and offensive contributions have bolstered his case for staying—Araujo has adapted swiftly to English football.

Iraola has eased Araujo into his new role, and Liverpool has benefited from the defender's versatility and experience. He scored a goal in their most recent Champions League triumph, so he's been an offensive contributor as well.

In praising Araujo's adaptability, the Liverpool manager brought attention to the value of his experience and readiness to play in a variety of defensive positions during the season.

A change like this was necessary, and Ronaldo has come to it with grace. His versatility as a player stems from his experience with a major club, Iraola said.

Because of this versatility, Liverpool may consider the defender's promising start and adaptability when deciding whether the €55 million option is a good long-term investment.

Although he had trouble establishing a regular playing time at Barcelona, Araujo is happy with his life at Liverpool because he has more opportunities to show off his skills.

According to the defender, his current priorities include playing, feeling important, and showing his football.

He continued by saying it was too soon to talk about his future, stressing that he wanted to keep playing frequently before deciding on his long-term career and whether or not to leave Barcelona permanently.

Barcelona will keep a careful eye on Araujo's development because they know a permanent transfer could bring in €55 million next summer, which could help them add an experienced defender to their roster.

Before permanently signing the Uruguayan defender for such a high fee, Liverpool should evaluate his consistency, transfer value, and compatibility with their defensive plans for the future.

Although Araujo is valuable due to his versatility as a center back and right back, Liverpool will make their decision based on how well he performs throughout the season.
