Trevoh Chalobah has admitted he wanted to become a Chelsea legend before leaving Stamford Bridge for Como during the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Football London on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, the 27-year-old defender reflected on his departure after spending 18 years at the Premier League club.
Chalobah joined Como in a deal worth more than £30 million, bringing his long association with Chelsea to an end despite having two years remaining on his contract, with an option to extend until June 2029.
Chelsea reportedly received an initial £25.7 million, with a further £5.1 million potentially available through add-ons. The transfer formed part of the club's summer clearout, which generated approximately £375 million in revenue.
Speaking to The Athletic, Chalobah expressed disappointment at leaving the club where he developed as a young player.
"The team didn’t achieve what we wanted to achieve last season, but I thought I had one of my best seasons, playing the most games and scoring a few goals.
"I’d been there since I was eight, and I wanted to be a legend there, but sometimes the way we plan things is not how things work out," he said.
The England international added that Chelsea remained important to him despite the move abroad, revealing that he continued to follow the team's matches and maintained contact with players and staff.
Chalobah made 151 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions, winning two FIFA Club World Cup titles, the FA Cup, the UEFA Conference League and the UEFA Super Cup.
He also explained that he had long understood the competition for places at Stamford Bridge, particularly during the period when Thiago Silva, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger were part of the squad.
On his decision to join Como, Chalobah credited manager Cesc Fabregas with helping convince him to embrace a new challenge.
"The manager reached out to me over the summer and explained the project and where he saw me playing. I read about the rise of Como, how exciting the team is," he said.
Chalobah added that Fabregas' interest in his experience made the move attractive, while his familiarity with Italy and appreciation of the country's lifestyle also influenced his decision.
"The football is amazing. The manager we have is great," he said.
