Erling Haaland's father drops Man City exit hint amid charges uncertainty

According to a report by Evening Standard on Monday November 2, 2026, Erling Haaland's father, Alf-Inge Haaland, has raised questions about the striker's future at Manchester City amid the club's ongoing financial charges case.

The Norwegian forward has continued his impressive goalscoring form this season, recording nine goals in his opening nine Premier League appearances to remain the competition's leading scorer.

However, uncertainty surrounding Manchester City's financial charges has raised questions about whether the 25-year-old could consider leaving the Etihad Stadium if the club receive severe punishment.

City are still awaiting the outcome of proceedings relating to 115 alleged breaches of Premier League financial regulations dating back to 2009.

An independent commission has found the club guilty of the charges, but the final punishment remains a subject of uncertainty as the legal process continues.

Possible sanctions, including relegation and a significant points deduction, have been discussed, with concerns that some of City's biggest players could consider their futures if the club are heavily punished.

Haaland's father was recently asked about his son's situation should Manchester City receive a severe sanction.

However, Alf-Inge insisted that the family would rather wait for the outcome of the appeals process before making any conclusions about what could happen.

"Well, Juventus was match-fixing and a few other things," he said when discussing City's situation.

"I think we should await the appeal process. It could happen quickly, even though there are rival supporters, clubs, and not least journalists who are out for blood against City right now.

"So we'll just have to wait and see what the appeal outcome says."

Alf-Inge also revealed that Manchester City believe they have sufficient evidence to defend themselves against the charges.

"City believe they have strong evidence to stand up and prove their innocence, so I think we wait until that decision is reached," he added.

He further explained that his son is not allowing the uncertainty surrounding the club to distract him from his responsibilities on the pitch.

"Erling thinks about playing as much football as he can and concentrates on that. I think it's more those of us outside the pitch who think a bit more about it," Alf-Inge said.

Despite his father's comments, there has been no confirmation that Haaland is considering leaving Manchester City.

The striker remains an important figure in Pep Guardiola's plans, having established himself as one of the most prolific forwards in European football since arriving from Borussia Dortmund.

However, Arsenal have previously been linked with a move for the Norwegian, while Spanish giants Real Madrid are also believed to be monitoring his situation.

Haaland finished eighth in the 2026 Ballon d'Or rankings, with Bayern Munich and England striker Harry Kane claiming the prestigious individual award.

For now, the Norwegian's immediate focus remains on football, while his long-term future could become a major talking point depending on the outcome of Manchester City's financial charges case.

Alf-Inge's comments have certainly left room for speculation, although he has made it clear that the family will wait for the legal process to reach its conclusion before considering what comes next.
