Nigeria's Flamingos have secured a historic place in the final of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup for the first time after recording an impressive 3-1 victory over Brazil in Wednesday's semi-final in Morocco.
The Nigerian youngsters delivered a brilliant second-half display at the Mohammed VI Football Complex, defeating their South American opponents to reach the final of the competition for the first time in the country's history.
Queen Joseph gave Nigeria the lead in the 56th minute before Awawu Bashiru doubled the advantage in the 71st minute with her first goal of the encounter.
Bashiru then completed her brace in the 80th minute, putting Akeem Busari's team in a comfortable position as they moved closer to securing their place in the final.
Brazil managed to reduce the deficit through Greise Kelly, who found the net in the 89th minute. However, the Flamingos maintained their advantage until the final whistle to seal a memorable 3-1 win.
The victory marks a significant achievement for Nigerian women's football, with the Flamingos reaching the final four of the tournament for the first time in their history.
Their previous semi-final appearance came in 2022 in India, where they suffered defeat against Colombia. However, Nigeria bounced back in the third-place playoff, beating Germany to secure the bronze medal.
This time, Busari's team have gone a step further at the tournament in Morocco, guaranteeing themselves at least a silver medal while moving within one victory of claiming their first U-17 Women's World Cup title.
The Flamingos will now turn their attention to Saturday's final, where they are scheduled to face Japan, who secured their place in the showpiece match after defeating defending champions North Korea in a penalty shootout in the other semi-final.
The final is scheduled to kick off at 3:30 p.m. local time in Morocco, with Nigeria aiming to make more history by winning their maiden FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup title and becoming the first Nigerian team to lift the trophy.
