According to a report by Barca Universal on Saturday October 31, 2026, Barcelona are considering signing a new full-back during the January transfer window, with Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro emerging as their preferred target.
The Catalan giants are also prioritising a centre-back as Hansi Flick looks to strengthen his defensive options following several injury setbacks.
According to Mundo Deportivo journalist Roger Torello, Barcelona have not completely ruled out recruiting players for both defensive positions if suitable opportunities arise. Although a centre-back remains the main priority, the club could also explore the possibility of adding another full-back.
Barcelona initially planned to sign a centre-back and an additional full-back last summer, alongside the arrival of Joao Cancelo. However, their recruitment strategy was affected by the failure to complete some expected player departures. This prevented the club from fulfilling its entire defensive transfer plan.
The situation has become more complicated following injuries to several defenders. Eric Garcia sustained a thigh problem that is expected to keep him sidelined for three to four weeks. Andreas Christensen has also been struggling with a physical issue, while Jules Kounde suffered an ankle sprain.
With Garcia and Kounde unavailable, Flick has been left with limited defensive options. Pau Cubarsi and Gerard Martin are currently the only available centre-back choices in the squad.
Meanwhile, Pedro Porro has emerged as Barcelona's preferred option for the right-back position. The 27-year-old Spanish international has established himself at Tottenham, making him an attractive candidate for the Catalan club.
However, securing his signature in January could prove extremely difficult. Tottenham extended his contract in June 2026, keeping him at the club until 2031, with an option for another year.
Consequently, next summer could provide Barcelona with a more realistic opportunity to pursue the defender. The club would also need to generate funds through player sales before making a serious move. No formal offer or agreement has been reported, and Tottenham have shown no indication of willingness to negotiate his departure.
