According to a report by Metro on Monday, November 2, 2026, former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard has tipped Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea to challenge Arsenal for the Premier League trophy this season, although he still considers the Gunners the leading favourites.
Arsenal moved back to the top of the standings after defeating Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield on Sunday. The result provided another major boost to Mikel Arteta's team, particularly after Manchester City failed to take advantage of their opportunity to gain ground, losing unexpectedly to Brighton.
Kai Havertz scored the decisive goal against Liverpool, giving Arsenal three important points from one of their most demanding away fixtures.
Gerrard believes the victory highlighted an important quality that every title-winning team must possess. According to the former England international, Arsenal showed determination, togetherness and the mental strength needed to overcome difficult opponents.
Speaking on The Overlap Daily, sponsored by Sky Bet, he explained that winning matches in challenging environments is often what separates champions from other competing teams.
He also stood by his prediction that Arsenal would successfully defend their Premier League crown, arguing that their performance at Anfield provided further evidence of their championship credentials.
However, Gerrard acknowledged that Liverpool cannot afford many more setbacks if they want to remain involved in the title battle. The Reds are currently nine points behind Arsenal, meaning they need a significant improvement in results to close the gap.
Meanwhile, he was impressed by Brighton's progress under Fabian Hurzeler, especially after their victory over Manchester City. Gerrard believes the Seagulls have an excellent manager and enough quality to compete for European qualification.
Nevertheless, he questioned whether Brighton could maintain their impressive performances across all 38 league matches, suggesting that the more experienced contenders would eventually establish themselves ahead of them.
Gerrard therefore identified Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea as the three clubs most likely to challenge Arsenal for the championship as the campaign continues.
Despite acknowledging the competition, he believes Arsenal's strong defensive structure, talented squad and ability to secure victories in different circumstances could ultimately make them difficult to stop.
