According to a report by Metro On Monday August 10, 2026, Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has backed the club’s new signings to make a strong impact at Old Trafford, with Youri Tielemans singled out for particularly high praise.

United have so far added Andrey Santos, Tielemans and goalkeeper Karl Darlow to their first-team squad during the summer transfer window.

Maguire has worked with Santos and Tielemans during pre-season and has been impressed with what he has seen, especially from the young Brazilian midfielder.

“Andrey has been here since minute one of pre-season and he’s been amazing. You can really feel the progress he’s making already,” Maguire told Manchester United club media.

Santos joined United from Chelsea for £48 million and has featured during the club’s pre-season preparations as he adapts to his new surroundings.

However, Maguire believes Tielemans could immediately establish himself as an important player for United following his £35 million move from Aston Villa.

“Youri, I played with him at Leicester for a few months so I know the ability and talent that he has,” Maguire said. “He’s at an age now where he’s going to come in, I’m sure he’s not going to need settling in, he’s going to come in and be a big player for this club. He’s a top player, I know that.”

Maguire also praised Darlow, who has joined United to provide competition and support for first-choice goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

Although Darlow is currently injured and is not expected to be a regular starter, Maguire believes his experience and personality will benefit the squad.

“Karl is out for a little bit at the moment, but I know Karl, I’ve played against him numerous times over the years,” he said. “He’s a great lad to have around the place, around the dressing room. He can bring great leadership and value to the team on the pitch but also off the pitch as well.”

United are continuing their pre-season preparations ahead of the new Premier League campaign, with further friendlies against Leeds United and AC Milan scheduled before their league opener against Hull City on August 22.
