According to a report by Daily Post on Thursday November 5, 2026, Nigeria's Flamingos have made history by reaching the final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup for the first time after recording an impressive 3-1 victory over Brazil in Wednesday's semi-final.
The Nigerian youngsters produced an outstanding performance at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Morocco to overcome their South American opponents and move within one victory of claiming their maiden title at the tournament.
Despite creating several opportunities, both teams failed to find the back of the net in the first half.
The Flamingos showed attacking ambition through Queen Joseph, Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, Oluebube Umejiaku, Mary Akpan Dunstan, Kanyinsola Yusuf and Favour Nkwocha, but Brazil's defence managed to withstand the pressure.
However, Nigeria eventually broke the deadlock in the 56th minute when Queen Joseph found the back of the net to give her side a deserved 1-0 lead.
The goal boosted the confidence of the Nigerian players, who continued to push forward in search of another strike.
Their efforts paid off in the 71st minute when Awawu Bashiru doubled the Flamingos' advantage, putting Nigeria in a commanding position in the semi-final.
Bashiru was not finished, as she struck again in the 80th minute to complete her brace and give Nigeria a comfortable 3-0 lead.
Brazil managed to pull one goal back through Greise Kelly in the 89th minute, but the late consolation proved insufficient to change the outcome.
The final whistle confirmed a historic 3-1 victory for Nigeria, securing the Flamingos' first-ever appearance in the final of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.
Nigeria will now turn their attention to Saturday's final, where they will face Japan on November 7.
The encounter presents the Flamingos with a golden opportunity to make even more history by winning their first-ever U-17 Women's World Cup title.
