Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has predicted that Arsenal will sell Viktor Gyokeres before next season, while the club faces criticism over the timing of staff redundancies and Mikel Arteta’s contract extension.
According to a report by Football London on Monday, 26 October 2026, Agbonlahor believes Gyokeres could leave Arsenal after struggling to make an impact since joining the Premier League champions.
The Sweden international started Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Everton but has yet to score in 10 appearances across all competitions this season.
He also has limited Premier League playing time, having featured in the starting line-up just once and accumulated 148 minutes.
Although Gyokeres was involved in the build-up to Arsenal’s opening goal, Agbonlahor questioned the striker’s movement and ability to influence matches during an appearance on talkSPORT.
"Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ. Looks like he's like running in slow motion, isn't he? Looks like he can't run," he said.
Agbonlahor added: "Can he hold the ball up? Yes, he can, but he will be one that won't be at the club next season. Yeah, 100%."
He also claimed Arsenal could have pursued a deal involving Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez during the previous transfer window, suggesting Gyokeres might have been included in a potential exchange.
Meanwhile, former Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness has criticised Arsenal over the timing of two major announcements involving the club.
Arteta’s contract extension, which runs until June 2030, was announced on 7 October, with the manager reportedly receiving an increase to his £10 million annual salary alongside bonuses of £5 million per year.
About a week later, Arsenal confirmed that up to 60 jobs could be lost following an external review of the club’s operations.
Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, Wyness argued that announcing the developments so close together created an unfavourable impression, despite the two matters being unrelated.
"It is a bad look, and I think it could have been avoided. I think it was all about timing," he said.
Wyness added that the announcements could generate dissatisfaction among staff, highlighting their importance to the running of a football club.
Arsenal, meanwhile, will turn their attention to Tuesday’s Carabao Cup trip to Fleetwood Town before facing Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
