Lamine Yamal, Pedri and other Barcelona stars report for voluntary training before Real Madrid clash

According to a report by Barca Universal on Thursday, October 22, 2026, Lamine Yamal, Pedri and several other Barcelona players attended voluntary training despite being granted a day off by head coach Hansi Flick ahead of Sunday's El Clasico against Real Madrid.

Reports suggest that approximately 11 players arrived at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper training facility to continue preparing for the crucial encounter. Their decision to train voluntarily demonstrates their commitment to improving their readiness for one of the biggest matches of the season.

Yamal, Pedri, Fermin Lopez and Xavi Espart were among the players who participated in the session. Gerard Martin and Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny also reported to the training ground despite the scheduled rest day.

Flick had allowed his squad to rest following their demanding trip to Paris, where Barcelona suffered a 4-2 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League. The team returned from France at approximately 3:30 am on Wednesday before completing a recovery session later that day.

With Sunday's El Clasico drawing closer, Flick must balance the need for tactical preparation with ensuring his players receive sufficient rest. Barcelona will be eager to respond positively after suffering their first defeat of the campaign.

Szczesny's presence was particularly notable, as the goalkeeper continues to demonstrate his professionalism and dedication despite not being a regular starter. His participation reflects the determination within the squad to prepare thoroughly for the upcoming challenge.

Meanwhile, several injured players continued their rehabilitation programmes in an effort to return to action. Roony Bardghji, Andreas Christensen, Eric Garcia and Dani Olmo were among those undergoing recovery work at the training complex.

Jules Kounde was also present, although his attendance does not confirm that he will be available for Sunday's match. The French defender remains a doubt, and his fitness will be closely monitored as Barcelona assess their defensive options.

Flick has only two collective training sessions remaining before the highly anticipated fixture. The Barcelona manager must therefore use the available time carefully to finalise his tactical approach while avoiding unnecessary physical strain on his players.

Barcelona currently enjoy a six-point advantage over Real Madrid in the La Liga standings and will aim to strengthen their position with a victory at the Spotify Camp Nou.

A win would extend their lead to nine points, placing additional pressure on their rivals. However, a defeat would allow Real Madrid to reduce the difference to just three points, making Sunday's encounter particularly important in the title race.
