According to a report by BBC Sports on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, AS Roma revived their Champions League campaign with a commanding 4-0 victory over Slovan Bratislava, scoring through Mario Hermoso, Nahuel Molina, Niccolo Pisilli and Donyell Malen to claim their first win of the season in the competition.
The Serie A side delivered a ruthless performance against the Slovakian club, managed by former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure, to secure a convincing victory on their return to the Champions League for the first time since 2019.
Roma entered the encounter seeking a response after suffering a disappointing 4-3 defeat to Real Madrid the previous week. The Italian side had surrendered their advantage in a dramatic late collapse, conceding three goals in the final seven minutes. However, they responded emphatically against Slovan Bratislava, taking control early and maintaining their dominance throughout the match.
Roma opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Hermoso headed home from close range, almost on the goal-line. The defender reacted quickest after Daniele Ghilardi nodded down Lorenzo Pellegrini’s free-kick into a dangerous area. The early breakthrough allowed Roma to dictate the tempo against their opponents, who struggled to contain the visitors’ attacking movement.
The Italian side doubled their advantage six minutes before half-time through Molina, who scored his first goal for the club. The goal came after Slovan Bratislava goalkeeper Dominik Takac pushed Malen’s effort across the face of goal. Molina was well positioned at the back post to force the ball into the net and give Roma a comfortable advantage before the interval.
Roma continued their attacking pressure after the restart and capitalised on hesitant defending to extend their lead in the 52nd minute. Matias Soule won possession inside the penalty area before Malen laid the ball back for Pisilli, who turned it home to make it 3-0. The goal further strengthened Roma’s control of the contest, leaving Slovan Bratislava with a difficult task as they attempted to find a route back into the match.
Malen then completed the scoring from the penalty spot just before the hour mark after Cesar Blackman fouled Wesley Franca inside the area. The Dutch forward converted the spot-kick to secure Roma’s fourth goal and cap an impressive attacking performance.
